A Joyful LGBT Wedding at Moonshine Wedding Venue in Hubbards, Nova Scotia
Planning an LGBT wedding in Nova Scotia and searching for a unique waterfront venue? Keenan and Spencer’s unforgettable celebration at Shandon’s Moonshine Cabin in Hubbards, Nova Scotia showcases everything couples love about this one-of-a-kind wedding venue. With breathtaking ocean views, colourful personal touches, heartfelt vows, and a setting made famous through television productions, their wedding day was filled with love, authenticity, and unforgettable memories.
As a Halifax wedding photographer, I have photographed weddings throughout Nova Scotia, and Moonshine Cabin offers one of the most distinctive backdrops for couples looking for a relaxed, scenic, and meaningful wedding experience on the South Shore.
Why Moonshine Cabin is One of the Most Unique Wedding Venues in Nova Scotia
One of the most memorable aspects of Keenan and Spencer’s wedding was their venue choice. Shandon’s Moonshine Cabin, located at Hubbards Campground and Cottages in Hubbards, Nova Scotia, offers couples a truly unique wedding experience unlike any other venue in the province.
Originally built as a film set for the CBC television series Moonshine and later featured in Sullivan’s Crossing, the cabin combines rustic charm, oceanfront views, and cinematic character. Nestled along Nova Scotia’s beautiful South Shore, the venue provides an intimate setting perfect for couples seeking a waterfront wedding with personality and charm.
Adding even more meaning to the location, Keenan’s mother worked on both productions as a First Assistant Director, creating a special connection between the venue and their family. Despite the challenges of hosting a wedding at a working film set, including limited utilities, the couple embraced every moment and created a celebration that reflected who they are.
A Love Story That Began Online
Not every great love story starts with a romantic movie moment—sometimes, it begins in the most unexpectedly perfect place.
Keenan and Spencer first crossed paths in a Facebook group dedicated to an anime convention in Toronto. They added each other but didn’t speak for months… until one simple “hey” changed everything.
That small message sparked a connection that grew into laughter, friendship, love, and the incredible life they now share. Their relationship began in a digital world, but the bond they built has been nothing short of real-world magic.

An Emotional LGBT Wedding Ceremony Overlooking the Ocean
When asked what their favourite part of their wedding was, both Keenan and Spencer instantly agreed: the ceremony.
Seeing their closest friends and family gathered around them as they exchanged promises was overwhelmingly emotional. Standing together in that moment—committing their lives to each other, celebrating their journey, and feeling the support of everyone they loved—created a sense of connection and joy they describe as “inexplicable.”
A Colourful Wedding Theme Inspired by Joy
Keenan and Spencer didn’t choose a traditional theme; instead, they focused on something deeper: joy.
Guests were encouraged to wear outfits that made them feel happy. Bright colours, fun patterns, and expressive fashion filled the space—creating a warm, lively, inclusive atmosphere that embraced the spirit of their LGBTQ+ wedding.
The result was a celebration that looked and felt like pure love.
Wedding Planning Advice from Keenan & Spencer
The couple had one major piece of advice for anyone planning a wedding—especially a destination, same-sex, or out-of-province celebration:
“If you can afford to, GET A WEDDING PLANNER.”
They credit Keenan’s mom for keeping things organized and stress-free. Without her experience and support, the process would have been far more overwhelming. And if a full planner isn’t in your budget, they recommend investing in a detailed wedding planning book to help you stay on track.
Because ultimately, planning your wedding should feel exciting—not exhausting.
