A Beautiful Rustic Farm Wedding at Healy Events….with Haley & Ryan
Haley and Ryan had an absolutely beautiful, sunny, barely a cloud in the sky, rustic farm wedding at Healey Events in Kentville NS on June the 11th. With lots of friends and family to watch them tie the knot along with their fire fighter colleagues, yes the fire truck came along for the ride as well! If you love barn style weddings this is definitely a venue to check out.
The Love Story
Haley and Ryan met through a mutual friend at a movie. Shortly after that movie, Ryan
added Haley to his social media and began liking all her life updates as she posted them. A
few months later they reconnected for dinner with the same friend. Haley had ordered a
side of french fries as she had already eaten, and Ryan paid for them. He likes to tell
people he won Haley over with 4 dollar french fries. Check out their engagement session in full fire fighting gear! It’s amazing, I just had to add the smoke to some of their images while in editing mode.
For Haley and Ryan a big part of choosing their venue was the location. It was local to them and all of their family, without looking like it was. Jess, the owner of Healy Farm made them feel very welcomed and supported and it made everything so much easier for both of them. Haley and Ryan also liked that the wedding venue was already so beautiful. They didn’t have to add much to it.
Their Wedding Day
Their favorite part of the wedding was the first look with the best man. It made the mood a lot lighter and gave them a good laugh before beginning the rest of what could be a stressful day. Of course all the silliness that followed with the best man after including their first dance too.
Advise for the Newly Engaged
Don’t stress over the small details. It’s going to feel like everything is going wrong but the day will work perfectly. Don’t worry too much about centerpieces, food, or flowers, this day is about you and your guests will be happy just celebrating you.
The Wedding Prep Photos
Both Haley and Ryan prepared for their wedding day right on site at Healy Farm. Haley got ready upstairs with her bridesmaids, while Ryan got ready right across the hallway in another bedroom.
The First Look Wedding Photos
OMG, is all I can say! This was a first for me, Ryan’s best man got dressed up in a wedding gown and the rest as they say is history! It was so hard to keep my camera from shaking even on a monopod because I was laughing so hard. Haley had a front row seat up in her room in the farm house to watch the entire first look unfold from the window!
The the real first look happened with Haley, love the emotions!
The Wedding Ceremony Photos
Haley and Ryan’s style was very natural, playing off the beauty of the wedding farm venue. They used lots of florals as decorations, kept it simple with lighting and centerpieces, and didn’t let anything become too busy or cluttered. Playing a lot with the soft pinks and greens as their colors with the natural wood, or glass to accent. Their ceremony took place down by the river in a field on the farm.
The Wedding Party Photos
I really love venues that are truly all in one. We had so much to play with on the farm that getting amazing images was definitely not an issue! We started with the fire truck, finishing with a black and white photo that Ryan really wanted, the helmet left in color. Then it was on to the barn and then the row of trees for a few pathway wedding photos.
The Wedding Reception Photos
The lights inside the barn hanging from the ceiling made for absolutely beautiful images especially for their first dance! Haley and Ryan opted for a buffet style dinner and the food was delicious. I loved seeing the engagement images I took for them on their tables, just love seeing my work in print.
I decided that I really wanted one particular image that could only be done after dark for my portfolio and I knew that Haley and Ryan also wanted this image so I stuck around until the sun went down and I am very glad I did as I just love it!
Covid and the Wedding Day
Haley and Ryan were originally scheduled to be married in 2020, 2 moths after the pandemic first hit the province and everything shut down. They were open with their vendors and their family about wanting to push their date. They didn’t end up handing out their invitations until May because both were so worried that numbers would drop again. Their advise…work with your venue, and your wedding planner if you have one, and just be flexible that some things may have to change and that it’s not your fault.
